The Happy Fire plugging along.

Fire Season Not Quite Over

With this heat wave (ugh)… our fire potential has stepped up a notch, especially for October!

The “Happy” fire is still puffing away (you can watch it on Buck Rock’s webcam) causing smoke to drift out all the way to Delilah. It’s snaking around in the brush and rocks… and every now and then running into some good burning stuff. The smoke has been seen on the valley floor raising some eyebrows. It’s still within the Rough Fire burn scar and is doing a lot of good work cleaning up the forest floor. It’s being closely monitored by air.  And, of course, Buck Rock Lookout has a front row seat.

Then… smoke popped up on the south end of Park Ridge, south of Park Ridge Lookout and inside the prescribed fire (Rx) box.  What has been quiet for weeks… the Park Ridge Rx rekindled!  Helicopter 552 came in and sized it up as quarter acre heat along the edge burning in fuels and downed logs.  They dropped a few buckets on it.  It won’t be surprising if we see more from this in the next few days.

Lookouts on duty will stay vigilant right up until the weather changes enough for us to step down and close for the season.
